Eliminating back, knee, and posture problems from your daily life via custom orthotics
Simply going to the shelf and picking out a foot bed will not result in significant remedy to the problem you may be experiencing. Our custom orthotics are custom designed to your specific foot shape and issue. Working in conjunction with a properly fitted piece of footwear, orthotics can help to reestablish the stable body position you were meant to operate with. The strain and stress that can be relieved in other parts of your body just by fixing misalignments within your feet is amazing. If you have experienced foot pain that has spread to other areas, it is time for you to take a serious look into orthotics.
Therapeutic orthotics custom fit just for you!
A custom orthotic is a device designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position. They look like insoles, but are bio-mechanical medical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance.
The TOG GaitScan™ is an innovative diagnostic tool and digital casting device that allows practitioners to analyze patient biomechanics and order custom orthotic products. With 4096 sensors and a scan rate of 300 frames per second, GaitScan™ is the industry leader in dynamic scanning capabilities.
It is often taken for granted, but the amount of time you spend on your feet each day is eye opening. Besides sitting (which many people spend too much time doing), every waking hour is spent on your feet. If some part of the system that allows you to walk and stand is not operating correctly, that is a huge amount of repetitive strain placed on all joints in the chain. On the same note, walking around in improperly sized or fitted footwear can also cause a host of problems. Problems that occur anywhere in the body often manifest issues in seemingly unrelated areas (that could benefit from naturopathy treatments), and no area is more common to have this occur than at the feet. Your feet are the base of your body; every single body part depends on them functioning well. Arch problems, bunions, or Achilles tendonitis are just some examples that can transmit dysfunction and pain to numerous areas of your posterior chain.
More often than not, footwear is bought for appearance rather than functionality. In certain cases, this may be a fair trade-off, but the more time you spend in a certain pair of shoes, the better they should fit and support your feet. Although functionality and appearance should not be mutually exclusive, your footwear should absolutely tailor to the former rather than the latter. If you experience pain in your hips or your back, the first places you should investigate as potential culprits are your feet and shoes. Are your shoes supporting your arch type? Do they fit properly? Are they allowing for a natural gait? If the answer is no to any of these questions, new footwear and orthotics should be seriously considered.
Orthotics are custom-made inserts that go into your footwear to improve foot alignment and functionality. Their main goal is to re-align the foot with the ankle, alleviating pressure on sore areas and properly distributing weight over the foot. Although the benefits are more numerous than those listed above, by simply working to cure these alignments, functionality can be resorted to the ankles, knees, hips and lower back. Additionally, often times foot strike and poor foot biomechanics cause pain in the knees and back. This, again, can be caused by improper footwear or a natural foot problem. Orthotics can help to sort out the biomechanics of your feet and get you walking in proper stride again.
On your first visit to Back and Body Wellness Centre, you will go through a few steps and procedures in order to give you the best-fitting custom orthotics.
We start by taking a complete history of the condition which is troubling your feet, knees, hips and/or lower back. Next we proceed with a computerized scan of your feet called Gait Analysis Scan, which then can be transmitted to The Orthotic Group Laboratory in Ontario. The scan will be done while you are standing and walking to get accurate readings of your foot biomechanics. Thereafter, your feet will be visually inspected and examined.
Based on the data collected and the examination, we will provide a consultation on the options available for the type of orthotics you may need. The first visit, including this process, will take about 30 minutes. Dr. Pannu may also do an assessment or evaluation of the spine and discuss how it is connected to the feet and wearing orthotics. If an evaluation of the spine is also performed, the first visit to our wellness centre here in Surrey can extend to 60 minutes. The orthotics will be ready within two weeks after the order.
